Unique specialties go on sale at Vietnam-Laos border market
VOV.VN - Every Sunday a market held along the border with Laos at the Nam Can international border gate in Nghe An province becomes bustling as it satisfies the shopping demand of people living in border areas between the two countries.
The market is open along the common border of Ky Son district (Nghe An - Vietnam) and Nong Het district (Xiangkhouang - Laos).
The market previously opened up on the final day every month at a location in Laos, about 3km from the border. Since 2019, the market has been moved to Nam Can international border gate and is held regularly on Sundays.
Many local specialties can be found on sale at the border market.
Handicraft items created by both Vietnamese and Lao people are available for purchase at the market.
Trade exchanges through the border crossing help to serve local people’s demand for goods throughout the whole year.
At the market people mainly use the Mong ethnic language in transactions, and both Lao and Vietnamese currencies are accepted as forms of payment. In the picture are Lao specialties on sale at the site.
Many products are precious, including herbs of indigenous origin which go on sale.
Grilled dishes with eye-catching colours and fragrant aromas serve to attract customers.
The border market is not only a place to exchange goods but also to promote the friendship relations between Vietnam and Laos.
