Vietnam extends sympathy to Thailand and Myanmar over deadly earthquake
VOV.VN - State President Luong Cuong on March 28 sent a message of sympathy to King Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand following a devastating earthquake that struck Thailand and Myanmar earlier the same day, causing severe human and property losses.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man also extended their sympathies to Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Speaker of the House of Representatives Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, respectively.
On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son sent messages of sympathy to Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa and Myanmar's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister U Than Swe.
The earthquake, which had a magnitude of 7.7, struck at 12:50 p.m. Myanmar time, with its epicenter located 16 km northwest of Sagaing, Myanmar, at a depth of 10 km, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
As of the evening of March 28, the Myanmar government reported that at least 144 people had lost their lives, while more than 700 others were injured.
