Slow transformation means falling behind the world, says Party leader To Lam

VOV.VN - Vietnam will lag behind its international peers unless the transformation process is hastened amid a rapidly progressing global context, warned Party General Secretary To Lam during a recent meeting with ranking officials to be nominated to the Party Central Committee of the new term.

During the meeting held in Hanoi on October 31, the Party leader analysed some fundamental aspects of the new era of national rejuvenation, as well as the foundation for setting goals to advance the country into this new era.

He emphasised that the era of national rejuvenation implies creating a powerful, decisive, and assertive movement that is marked by positivity, effort, inner strength, and confidence to overcome all challenges, fulfill aspirations, strive toward goals, and achieve great accomplishments.

According to the Party chief, the new era for the Vietnamese nation is characterised as an era of development and prosperity under the leadership of the Communist Party. The ultimate aim is therefore successfully building a strong socialist state with a wealthy people and a democratic, equitable, and civilized society that stands shoulder to shoulder with the great powers of the five continents.

“This reflects the aspiration of President Ho Chi Minh during his lifetime, and the goal we must strive towards,” stressed the leader.

The General Secretary also emphasised that one of the country’s goals and aspirations in this new era is for every citizen to enjoy a prosperous and happy life and receive support for development and wealth creation, while also increasingly contributing to peace, stability, and development in the world, along with the happiness of humanity and global civilization.

He noted that the top priority in the new era is to successfully achieve the strategic goals of turning Vietnam into a developing socialist country with a modern industry and high average income by 2030 and into a developed socialist country with high income by 2045. This can be achieved by strongly awakening the national spirit and fostering self-reliance, confidence, resilience, national pride, and the aspiration for national development, while closely combining the strength of the nation with the strength of the era.

The General Secretary affirmed that the beginning of the new era starts from the coming 14th National Party Congress, and this requires all Vietnamese people to work together, maximise opportunities and advantages, and overcome all risks and challenges to comprehensively achieve strong breakthrough developments.

“From now until 2030 is the most critical phase for establishing a new world order. This is considered to be a strategic opportunity period and a sprint phase for the Vietnamese revolution to achieve the 100-year goal under the Party’s leadership till 2045 to mark the nation’s centenary founding,” stated the leader.

According to the Party chief, there must be long-term plans in place for what needs to be done over the next five years and beyond to achieve the set goals. Delaying change or innovation can lead to becoming outdated in a rapidly progressing global context.

“Especially, new opportunities arise during sudden changes in the global landscape, particularly as the Fourth Industrial Revolution has significantly altered the world. Evidence shows that countries that have developed successfully did so by applying science and technology to their development,” the General Secretary stated.

General Secretary To Lam also discussed with the officials about the strategic directions for advancing the country into the new era of national rejuvenation. These include issues related to improving the Party’s leadership methods, enhancing Party characteristics in building and perfecting a socialist rule-of-law state of the people, by the people, and for the people; streamlining organisational structures to operate effectively and efficiently; digital transformation; combating corruption; and personnel work.

The officials were attending a training course held in Hanoi designed to equip them with new knowledge and skills for those nominated to the new Party Central Committee.

The 14th National Party Congress is scheduled to take place in Hanoi in early 2026.
