2024 Huong Pagoda Festival attracts hordes of pilgrims, visitors

VOV.VN - Hordes of pilgrims and visitors flocked to Huong (Perfume) Pagoga in Hanoi’s My Duc district on February 15, the fifth day of the first lunar month, to attend one of the largest spring festivals of the year in Vietnam.

Huong Pagoda is a vast cultural and religious complex of Buddhist temples and shrines built into the limestone Huong Tich mountains.

The festival that draws large numbers of pilgrims from across Vietnam lasts for 90 days, from February 11 to May 11.

The annual festival aims to promote the value of the complex - a special national relic site. Diverse activities will be held during the event, including rowing, trekking, chèo (popular opera), and palanquin procession.

Despite light rain, pilgrims and tourists continue to flock to the festival.

Rowing boats are arranged in line as they transport pilgrims and tourists to the main shrines across the site.

Going on pilgrimage is a cultural and spiritual tradition for many Vietnamese people.

The highlight of this year’s festival is that boat management has been significantly improved, facilitating easier travel for tourists.

About 80,000 people have travelled to the site over the past three days. February 15 alone sees an estimated 40,000 people visit the site. The number of pilgrims to Huong Pagoda is anticipated to keep rising in the coming days, according to the management board of the complex.
