VOV.VN - A delegation of Hanoi has held meetings with UNESCO representatives, international organisations and heritage experts to strengthen cooperation in preserving and promoting cultural heritage on the sidelines of the ongoing 48th session of the World Heritage Committee in Busan, the Republic of Korea.
The session, held from July 19 to 29, brings together representatives of member states, international organisations and heritage experts to review nominations for new World Heritage sites, assess the conservation status of listed properties and discuss international cooperation in heritage protection.
Led by Vice Chairwoman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Vu Thu Ha, the delegation met with representatives of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), and experts from a joint UNESCO/ICOMOS advisory mission.
At the meetings, Ha expressed appreciation for the technical support and professional advice that UNESCO and its advisory bodies have provided in recent years.
She reaffirmed Hanoi’s commitment to strengthening cooperation in the conservation, management and promotion of cultural heritage, in the capital city, especially the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Officials highlighted the importance of continued international collaboration in ensuring that heritage conservation is carried out in accordance with global standards while preserving the historical and cultural values of the site for future generations.
Participation in the World Heritage Committee session reflects Hanoi's broader strategy of integrating cultural heritage conservation with sustainable urban development and international cultural exchange.
By engaging with UNESCO, heritage professionals and cities with internationally recognised heritage sites, Hanoi aims to enhance its capacity in heritage management and promote the capital's rich cultural identity to the international community.
The city views cultural heritage not only as a historical asset but also as an important resource for education, tourism and sustainable socio-economic development, contributing to Hanoi's image as a city with a rich history and vibrant cultural life.
Politburo’s Resolution No. 80 on developing Vietnamese culture places a stronger emphasis on nurturing talents in traditional arts. It is expected to breathe fresh life into Vietnam’s cultural heritage, as these art forms face mounting challenges in the modern entertainment landscape.
