VOV.VN - The first ethnic and religious festival of Hanoi is scheduled to take place at Thang Long Imperial Citadel and the Hoan Kiem (Returned Sword) Lake area in late April - a major cultural event celebrating the city’s diversity and spiritual heritage.
The festival aims to affirm Vietnam’s policies on ethnic affairs and the respect for freedom of belief and religion, while promoting the preservation and development of traditional cultural values among ethnic communities and religious organisations. It also highlights Hanoi’s role as a national cultural hub, where diverse cultural and spiritual traditions converge.
The festival will begin with an incense-offering ceremony at Kinh Thien Palace inside the Thang Long Imperial Citadel.
This will be followed by a large-scale cultural parade and mass performance, featuring representatives of ethnic groups and religious communities showcasing traditional costumes, musical instruments and symbolic cultural elements.
A variety of cultural exhibition spaces will recreate traditional architectural styles from different regions of Vietnam, including stilt houses, communal houses and the Guol communal house of the Co Tu ethnic group.
In addition, activities to recreate festivals and perform folk art will be held such as the fire dance of the Pa Then ethnic group, the Long Tong festival of the Tay people, the Kate festival of the Cham people, Chol Chnam Thmay of the Khmer people, the Xoe dance of the Thái people, and the bamboo pole dance of the Muong people.
Activities will include Zen tea experiences and Buddhist cultural displays, exhibitions of ritual objects and Buddhist symbols, cultural talks and vegetarian cuisine spaces.
There will also be activities related to the Mother Goddess worship tradition, including exhibitions of ceremonial costumes and a 3D technology recreation of the “hầu đồng” spirit-possession ritual, offering visitors a new immersive cultural experience.
The Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs on November 28 held a consultation conference with ministries and sectors on the policy dossier for the amended Law on Belief and Religion.
