Ho Chi Minh City will stage fireworks displays at 16 locations across the city on July 2 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Saigon – Gia Dinh officially renamed after President Ho Chi Minh (July 2, 1976–2026).
Under a plan approved by Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Cuong, the celebrations will feature five high-altitude fireworks sites combined with low-altitude displays.
These locations consist of the area at the entrance to the Saigon River Tunnel in An Khanh ward, the centre of the new urban area in Binh Duong ward, Tam Thang Square in Vung Tau ward, the Cu Chi Tunnels historical relic site in An Nhon Tay commune, and the Can Gio coastal tourism urban area.
The fireworks show will take place from 9:00pm to 9:15pm on July 2.
The central display at the Sai Gon River Tunnel area, opposite to Bach Dang Wharf, will be the largest, featuring 1,000 high-altitude fireworks and 200 low-altitude fireworks. Other major sites will each launch between 420 and 500 high-altitude fireworks alongside low-altitude ones.
At the same time, low-altitude fireworks will be set off at 11 additional locations to serve residents and visitors across the city. These include the SAIGON MARINA IFC Tower, Ben Noc Temple, Con Dao’s Pier 914 historical site, the Dat Do commune Public Service Centre, and several cultural and sports centres in outlying communes and wards.
City authorities have assigned the municipal High Command to coordinate preparations and ensure the safe transport, storage and operation of fireworks. Police and relevant agencies will also implement traffic management plans and strengthen security around viewing areas.
To ensure public safety, waterway traffic around fireworks locations will be suspended from 8:30pm to 10:00pm on July 2, while additional police will be deployed to maintain order and assist spectators during the celebrations.
