VOV.VN - Da Lat city will implement various initiatives and solutions to uphold its status as a UNESCO Creative City in Music, a title recently granted, affirmed the local leadership at a consultation workshop held on February 22.
Addressing the event, Dang Quang Tu, chairman of the People's Committee of Da Lat City, stated that UNESCO’s approval of Da Lat as the next Vietnamese member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network on October 31, 2023, was a milestone event eagerly anticipated by residents.
Earning the title was challenging, but maintaining it will be even more difficult, he admitted.
He affirmed that the city pledges to fulfill its responsibilities as a UNESCO Creative City in Music, which includes systematically archiving the city's diverse musical heritage, hosting community-led discussions on music and culture, enhancing community capacity and soft skills in the creative sector, and experimenting with musical innovations to foster creativity.
In addition, he said, Da Lat commits to fostering community music development, strengthening the network of creative music and art spaces, and ensuring the city remains a vibrant hub for musical expression.
The city has also proposed three international initiatives, by hosting the annual Gong culture festival of the Central Highlands, public performances of traditional arts on streets and in public venues; and the biennial flower-music festival that blends Da Lat’s renowned floral beauty with rich musical traditions.
As a UNESCO Creative City, Da Lat is committed to fulfilling all proposed initiatives and ensuring its continued contribution to the global creative network, said the official.
The year 2023 marked Da Lat’s 130th anniversary (1893-2023), a milestone celebrated with numerous cultural, artistic, and musical events. The city's recognition as a UNESCO Creative City in Music holds immense significance for its future development. During the 130th-anniversary celebration in December 2023, Da Lat hosted a special music programme to commemorate its new title as a UNESCO Creative City in Music.
