Vietnamese-Thai film to hit the big screen
La May Tren Bau Troi Ai Do (Be a Cloud in Someone’s Sky), a film jointly produced by Vietnam and Thailand, will hit screens nationwide on July 22.
VOV.VN - The Thai Film Festival in Vietnam 2026 opened in Ho Chi Minh City on July 9 to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand, with moviegoers able to enjoy five Thai films free of charge and meet their directors during the three-day event.
The opening ceremony was attended by Vietnamese entertainers along with Thai actors and filmmakers popular with Vietnamese audiences.
This is the third Thai Film Festival to be held in Vietnam, following earlier editions in 2018 and 2025. Running from July 9 to 11, the event aims to strengthen cooperation between the Thai and Vietnamese film industries.
Pornvit Sila-on, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) under Thailand's Ministry of Commerce, said this year's festival combines trade promotion activities with film exchanges, creating stronger connections between the two sectors.
Five Thai films are being screened free of charge during the festival, with tickets available upon advance registration.
They are Our House, Death Whisperer, Midnight Incense, Ghost Board and Human Resource. The Human Resource will make its Vietnamese premiere at the festival and is the only non-horror title in this year's lineup.
Following each screening, audiences will have an opportunity to meet and interact with the films' directors and cast members.
Pornvit highlighted Vietnam as one of the key markets for Thailand's film and creative content industries, saying Vietnamese audiences' openness to cultures from around the world has helped boost the popularity of Thai films and television productions in the country.
He cited Our House, which grossed more than VND10 billion during its first week in Vietnamese cinemas, as one of the reasons it was selected for this year's festival. The film's director and cast members will meet audiences and share insights into the filmmaking process.
Through the Thai Film Festival in Vietnam, we hope to expand the presence of Thai cinema in the Vietnamese market, give audiences a better understanding of the diversity and quality of Thai films, and create more opportunities for cooperation between film producers from both nations, Pornvit said.
A Thai film festival will be held on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-Thailand diplomatic relations, from September 30 to October 2 in CGV Vivo City, HCM City.
