The Dream Is A Snail to compete in Short Film Palme d’Or at Cannes Festival

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s Giấc Mơ Là Ốc Sên (The Dream Is a Snail) has been named for the Official Selection of the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, where it will compete for the Short Film Palme d’Or.

Directed by Nguyen Thien An, the film was chosen from 3,184 submissions from 136 countries and is one of 10 short films selected for screening this year. It is also the first Vietnamese short film to compete in this category.

The Palme d'Or for the best short film will be awarded on May 23 during the closing ceremony of the 79th Cannes Film Festival.

The Dream Is a Snail is one of five projects under the CJ Short Film Project 2025 and marks a significant milestone in Nguyen Thien An’s career in international cinema.

The film follows Huy, an actor who gradually develops a dependence on a strange pleasure associated with snails after agreeing to model for a rejuvenation seminar. Blending realism with surreal elements, the film is highly thought-provoking.

The project received guidance from director Phan Dang Di, while cinematography was handled by Chananun Chotrungroj.

The 79th Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to take place from May 12 to 23.
