Vietnamese culture, scenic spots highlighted at 36th Hong Kong Book Fair

The event, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), is a major regional cultural festival that connects seasoned international authors and serves as an important bridge for young talents to bring their national identity to the world stage.

The participation of enthusiastic independent creators like Chau, professionally known as Bonnie Chau, helps bring Vietnam closer to the international community.

At this year's fair, Chau introduced an emotional perspective through heritage-based art projects. She operates a creative space dedicated to promoting Vietnamese traditional values through handicrafts, heritage designs, and particularly illustration and visual storytelling. Through this visual and cinematic language, she guided the Hong Kong public and international visitors to explore the depth of Vietnam's cultural heritage, unique cuisine, and famous landmarks.

Her artistic identity was underscored by a series of animated videos adapting the classic novella “The Little Prince” with poetic drawings and deep messages, demonstrating her ability to convey culture through contemporary artistic language to make traditional values more accessible to the youth.

At the venue, she presented a QR code linking to the "Soul of Vietnam" project on social media, reflecting her commitment to sharing Vietnamese culture globally through modern approaches. Operating as a cinematic storytelling channel, "Soul of Vietnam" captures daily moments, unique cultural heritages, and the gentle pace of life in Vietnam as well as the Chinese community in the country, providing an authentic and emotional lens for a global audience.

Chau's background as a Vietnamese of Chinese descent gave her a unique advantage in building a deep connection at the fair. Her fluency in Cantonese became a natural bridge that erased conventional communication barriers, allowing her to engage closely with Hong Kong residents. This deep cross-cultural understanding made her stories about Vietnamese cuisine, landscapes, and people vivid and highly relatable to local visitors.

Selected as a guest representative by the Consulate General of Vietnam in Hong Kong and the fair's organizing board, Chau expressed her hope that the program will provide international friends with a multidimensional and objective perspective on Vietnam. She also anticipated that future cooperation between Vietnam and Hong Kong will move past tourism and culture into economic fields to enhance broader exchanges and achieve breakthrough developments.

The cultural exchange event at the 36th Hong Kong Book Fair went beyond conventional promotion, opening a space for direct interaction to give Hong Kong and international readers a comprehensive view of an innovative and creative Vietnam.
