Vietnamese film “Ky Nam Inn” to premiere at Toronto Film Festival

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese film Quán Kỳ Nam (Ky Nam Inn), directed by Leon Le, will have its world premiere this September at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), featured in the prestigious Special Presentations section.

Special Presentations highlights high-profile premieres and major works by renowned directorsm typically narrative features with artistic depth, acclaimed casts, and strong awards potential.

According to TIFF’s official website, Ky Nam Inn tells the story of a young translator, played by Lien Binh Phat, who finds himself lost in both memory and meaning. In search of a place to stay, he arrives at the modest Ky Nam Inn, run by an older widow portrayed by Do Thi Hai Yen. The two characters gradually find solace in each other’s presence.

The film marks a continued collaboration between Leon Le and screenwriter Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc, cinematographer Bob Nguyen, and composer Ton That An.

Other notable films in this year’s Special Presentations lineup include A Pale View of Hills by Kei Ishikawa, Couture by Alice Winocour, and Frankenstein by Guillermo del Toro.

Leon Quang Le is a Vietnamese-American Broadway dancer and filmmaker. Born in Vietnam in 1977, he moved to the United States with his family at age 13 before later returning to pursue filmmaking in his home country.

TIFF is one of the world’s largest and most influential film festivals. Held annually in Toronto, Canada, it presents a wide array of international films, including features, documentaries, and shorts, and plays a pivotal role in shaping the fall awards season. It is widely recognized as a launchpad for both independent and major studio releases.

Vietnamese movie set for screening in USA, Europe

VOV.VN - The popular Vietnamese movie "Mai" will be screened in several foreign markets from March 22, including the United States, the Czech Republic, Germany, and Slovakia, according to local film producer-director Tran Thanh.
