VOV.VN - The Vietnam E-commerce and Digital Economy Agency (iDEA) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in coordination with the Vietnam Trade Office in Cambodia and the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC), hosted a workshop in Phnom Penh on July 15 to promote bilateral cross-border e-commerce.
The event, themed "Promoting Cross-Border E-Commerce between Vietnam and Cambodia: Market Connectivity and Export Potential Expansion," drew nearly 100 business representatives from both nations.
Addressing the workshop, Nguyen Anh Vu, Head of the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade delegation, and Do Viet Phuong, Head of the Vietnam Trade Office in Cambodia, highlighted that bilateral trade reached over US$11.3 billion in 2025. To realize the high-level leadership's goal of raising this figure to US$20 billion, cross-border e-commerce stands as a key driver and a vital growth area.
Vietnam is currently among the fastest-growing e-commerce markets in Southeast Asia, with its online retail market reaching approximately US$31 billion in 2025, a 25% year-on-year increase.
Meanwhile, Cambodia is experiencing rapid digital growth with a young population and rising internet and digital payment adoption. Vu emphasized that this digital synergy, combined with geographic proximity and logistics advantages, offers an ideal environment for businesses to reach consumers directly.
CCC Vice President Tan Monivann noted that while e-commerce is still a relatively new field in Cambodia, Vietnam’s sector has grown strongly but still holds immense potential for further breakthrough development. He described the workshop as a crucial link for both sides to discuss and promote the sector's contribution to the regional economy.
He expressed hope that the event will create a platform for in-depth discussions on policies and mechanisms to support businesses, and that Cambodia could learn from Vietnam's experience in streamlining administrative procedures to facilitate trade and investment.
Leng Rithy, Chairman of the Vietnam-Cambodia Business Association (VCBA), added that digital transformation has made cross-border e-commerce essential for modern businesses to enhance competitiveness and integrate into regional supply chains.
He committed that the VCBA will continue working closely with relevant agencies to help member enterprises access technology and build a transparent, modern, and sustainable e-commerce ecosystem.
The event also featured presentations on consumer behavior, market trends, and infrastructure, alongside an exhibition area featuring key products from both countries to facilitate direct business networking.
VOV.VN - Vietnam has maintained its position as one of Cambodia's leading trading partners, with bilateral trade continuing to expand during the first half of 2026.
