China officially agrees to import Vietnam’s fresh jackfruit

VOV.VN - China has officially agreed to allow the import of fresh jackfruit from Vietnam, opening a new avenue for Vietnamese agricultural exports to the Chinese market.

A protocol to this effect was signed between representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of Vietnam (MoAE) and the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC).

The signing took place at a working session between MoAE Minister Tran Duc Thang and GACC Deputy Commissioner Zhao Zenglian during the former’s visit to China from November 26–28.

At the meeting, Zhao highlighted the long-standing, friendly, and productive cooperation between Vietnam and China, adding that this year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, with numerous events.

He emphasised that Thang’s visit demonstrates the effective collaboration between MoAE and GACC, noting that the trip would further strengthen cooperation, particularly in economic, social, and trade relations.

The GACC representative affirmed that China values trade with Vietnam and is ready to welcome high-quality Vietnamese agricultural products. He revealed that GACC, responsible for quarantine and market access, would work to fulfill the shared goals agreed upon by the countries’ leaders.

“This year, we have already signed four protocols on the export of chili, passion fruit, rice bran, and raw bird’s nest. Today’s signing of the protocol on fresh jackfruit export creates new momentum for agricultural trade,” he stressed.

He also expressed GACC’s willingness to deepen cooperation with Vietnamese agencies to achieve shared objectives and contribute to building a Vietnam–China community with a shared future.

For his part, Thang welcomed the results of the discussions with GACC and reaffirmed the growing cooperation between both sides. He noted that Vietnam’s Party and State leaders consistently prioritise enhancing collaboration with China, especially in agriculture and environmental management.

Highlighting trade figures, the Vietnamese official stressed that China remains a vital import–export market for Vietnam, with two-way trade in the first ten months of the year surpassing the full-year total of 2024.

He underlined the need to further strengthen cooperation in areas related to agriculture and the environment, as well as in investment promotion - particularly given the geographic advantages of the shared border, which facilitates trade and investment.

He expressed his hope that MoAE and GACC would continue to exchange and advance their cooperation while extending his thanks to GACC for their support in finalising the fresh jackfruit export protocol.

During the meeting, both sides also discussed technical issues related to the import and export of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products.
