International Trade Fair boosts Vietnam-Cambodia-Laos border trade

VOV.VN - The 18th Tinh Bien-An Giang International Trade Fair 2026 opened on June 4 in An Giang province, bringing together around 260 booths from Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.

Held at Xuan To Industrial Park in Tinh Bien Ward, the seven-day event runs from June 4 to 10 as part of Vietnam’s 2026 National Trade Promotion Programme, aimed at strengthening cross-border trade, digital commerce and regional economic connectivity among the three countries.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nguyen Thanh Phong, vice chairman of An Giang provincial People's Committee described border trade as the “lifeblood of the economy,” noting that economic ties between An Giang and neighbouring provinces in Cambodia and Laos have continued to expand in recent years.

In 2025, total import-export turnover through border gates reached US$1.287 billion, including US$561.35 million in exports and US$718 million in imports. Tinh Bien has emerged as a key logistics hub and an important link in the transnational economic corridor.

Meanwhile, Governor Vei Samnang of Cambodia’s Takeo province said the fair’s 18 consecutive editions demonstrate the success of regional cooperation in border areas and the Mekong region. He described the event as not only a commercial activity but also a symbol of longstanding friendship and solidarity among Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos.

He reaffirmed Takeo’s commitment to promoting production chains, market access and cross-border trade while supporting local businesses in promoting One Commune One Product (OCOP) products and handicrafts.

Representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Trade highlighted the fair’s role in helping businesses access advanced trade management practices, digital logistics solutions and green growth standards, enabling them to better adapt to new-generation trade agreements and international market requirements.

A key highlight of this year’s event is the launch of a multilingual digital pavilion that has been designed to promote products online after the fair ends, facilitate direct business matching and enhance the competitiveness of enterprises from the three countries.

The combination of digital trade promotion and the on-site fair, held alongside the Ba Chua Xu Festival at Sam Mountain, is expected to boost cross-border commerce, tourism and the promotion of An Giang’s cultural heritage.
