Market access granted for processed chicken in Vietnam–RoK deal

The MoU was signed during the ongoing state visit to Vietnam by RoK President Lee Jae-myung. It was inked by Vietnamese Minister of Agriculture and Environment Trinh Viet Hung and RoK Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Song Mi-ryung.

The signed document marks an important milestone in bilateral agricultural cooperation and establishes a stronger framework for coordination in animal quarantine and veterinary practices.

At the initial stage, each country will designate two enterprises eligible to export processed chicken products. The step is expected to serve as a foundation for expanding participation in the future, contributing to higher export value in the livestock and food processing sectors.

Song noted that the outcome reflects sustained negotiations and effective coordination between relevant agencies of both sides, including Vietnam’s Department of Livestock Production and Animal Health and the RoK’s Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency.

Both sides agreed to continue technical exchanges, particularly in animal quarantine, to facilitate further market access for additional products such as Vietnamese pork and Korean beef.

To ensure effective implementation of the MoU, Hung said the ministry would direct relevant agencies to work closely with their Korean counterparts on inspection, evaluation, and quality monitoring.

From a business perspective, Pawalit Ua-Amornwanit, CEO of CP Vietnam Corporation, said the approval of processed chicken exports to the RoK demonstrates the growing capacity of Vietnamese enterprises in production and processing.
