VOV.VN - Nestlé Vietnam announced on January 8 the additional investment of US$100 million to double its processing capacity of high-quality coffee lines at the Nestlé Tri An factory in the southern province of Dong Nai.
According to Binu Jacob, managing director of Nestlé Vietnam, the latest investment is testament to the company's long-term investment commitment in the Vietnamese market.
He noted that the move brings total foreign investment value of Nestlé Vietnam Co., Ltd. up to nearly US$830 million.
Nestlé Tri An is one of Nestlé's largest production plants in Vietnam and is also one of the group's largest and most modern coffee processing plants in the region. Besides serving Vietnamese consumers, the high quality products made at Nestlé Tri An are also exported to more than 29 countries around the world.
Along with processing and value-enhancing activities for Vietnamese coffee beans, Nestlé is also the largest coffee buyer with a total annual purchase value of about 20% to 25% of Vietnam’s total coffee output, which is equivalent to US$700 million per year.
The company has also moved to step up the implementation of the circular economy whilst using renewable energy to help reduce more than 14,000 tonnes of CO2 in coffee production annually.
Vietnam has shown its attractiveness as a sustainable and long-term investment destination thanks to the country's numerous advantages, according to CEO of Nestle Vietnam Binu Jacob.
Nestlé Vietnam in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has launched a project on sustainable coffee farming under the agro-forestry model in Vietnam, aiming to plant more than 2.3 million trees by 2027.
The Swiss multinational food and drink processing conglomerate Nestlé is helping farmers in many countries, including Vietnam, to shift to regenerative agriculture in order to protect the environment and improve their living standard, community and consumers, a representative of the group announced on April 26.
