
VOV.VN - The United States remained the largest consumer of Vietnamese pepper last year with 72,311 tonnes, accounting for 28.9% of total pepper export value and representing a sharp rise of 33.2% compared to 2023, according to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association.
This is also the highest record export volume ever recorded, up 21% compared to the 2021 record figure of 59,778 tonnes.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) ranked second with 16,391 tonnes, up 35.1%; followed by Germany with 14,580 tonnes, up 58.2%; the Netherlands with 10,745 tonnes, up 35.2%; and India with 10,617 tonnes, down 17.1%.
The average export price of black pepper last year witnessed an annual surge of 49.75% to reach US$5,154 per tonne, while that of white pepper rose by 38.9% on-year to US$6,884 per tonne.
Olam Vietnam was the largest pepper exporter last year with 27,800 tonnes, accounting for 11.1% of the total, with exports soaring by 36.9% compared to 2023.
In December alone, the country shipped 15,265 tonnes of pepper of all kinds worth US$100.6 million, down 4.3% in volume and 5.5% in turnover compared to the previous month.
The average export price of black pepper in December reached US$6,476 per tonne, down 0.6%, while that of white pepper stood at US$8,198 per tonne, down 1.1% compared to November.
The US remained Vietnam’s largest pepper export market in December with 4,509 tonnes, accounting for 29.5% and decreasing 11.4% compared to November.
Last year, Vietnam exported 250,600 tonnes of pepper of all kinds with total export turnover reaching US$1.38 billion, down 5.1% in export volume but up 45.4% in export turnover.
VOV.VN - Vietnam grossed US$1.26 billion from exporting nearly 242,000 tonnes of pepper by mid-December this year, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
Vietnam exported 235,335 tonnes of pepper, including 207,498 tonnes of black pepper and 27,837 tonnes of white pepper, in January - November to earn US$1.22 billion, with the US being the biggest importer, according to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA).
