PM Chinh attends Vietnam - Japan business forum

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the Vietnam - Japan business forum on the afternoon of May 21 as part of his activities within the framework of the expanded Summit of the Group of Seven (G7) countries and his working visit to Japan.

The event was held by the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Embassy of Vietnam in Japan, the Japan Trade Promotion Organization (JETRO), and the administration of Hiroshima Prefecture.

At the forum, Japanese businesses highly appreciated the socio-economic achievements of Vietnam - the most dynamic developing country in Southeast Asia which has a favorable investment and business environment and an abundant, young, and highly qualified workforce, while noting that Vietnam and Japan are close in culture and history.

Japanese businesses identify Vietnam as a leading investment destination and wish to continue to expand investment in Vietnam in the fields of energy conversion, logistics, real estate, information technology, electric car manufacturing, finance-banking, automation equipment, apparel, and retail.

They suggested Vietnam continue to create more favourable conditions for them to expand their investment in Vietnam, especially by simplifying administrative procedures, granting investment licenses, providing stable green energy for production, adopting preferential policies for a number of priority economic sectors, and loosening the policy of granting work permits.

In his speech, PM Pham Minh Chinh thanked Japanese businesses for their sharing, companionship and determination to run long-term investment in Vietnam, especially in the context of difficulties and challenges.

He also hailed Japanese businesses for accompanying Vietnam to combat the COVID-19 pandemic for stability and development in the spirit of "harmonious benefits, shared risks".

According to the Vietnamese Government leader, after 50 years of establishment, the relationship between Vietnam and Japan is better than ever, becoming more and more substantive and effective.

Japan is currently the largest ODA donor, the second labor cooperation partner, the third largest investor, tourism partner, and the fourth largest trade partner of Vietnam.

PM Chinh said that, after more than 35 years of pursuing the Doi Moi (Renewal) process, Vietnam has never had the opportunity, potential, prestige and international position like today. Vietnam built the country on three main pillars: socialist democracy, socialist-oriented market economy, and law-governed socialist State.

Vietnam follows the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification and multilateralization, being a good friend, a reliable partner and a responsible member of the international community; building an independent and self-reliant economy in association with proactive, extensive, substantive and effective international integration, he went on to say.

In addition, Vietnam has made three strategic breakthroughs in institutional improvement, human resource training and infrastructure development, thus creating the best conditions for businesses to attract investment for further development.

The Vietnamese Government chief affirmed Vietnam’s readiness to solve practical problems appropriately and effectively, including business related issues.

The country continues to prioritize stabilizing the macro-economy, controlling inflation, ensuring major balances, promoting growth, giving priority to three growth drivers, namely consumption, investment and exports.

On that basis, the Vietnamese cabinet leader proposed Japanese businesses continue to invest in Vietnam, with a focus on innovation, digital economy, green economy, circular economy, climate change response, knowledge-led economy.

He also asked them to help Vietnamese businesses join the global supply chain, support Vietnam in technology, capital, governance, human resource training, institutional building in order to realize the goal of reducing emissions to zero by 2050.

He noted opinions put forth by businesses, saying that these issues have also been directed by the Government to ministries, sectors and localities aimed at removing difficulties and facilitating businesses' development, including Japanese enterprises.
