VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered relevant ministries and localities to ensure sufficient supplies of essential goods and prevent unreasonable price hikes ahead of the coming Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.
According to an official directive dated February 1, the Prime Minister stressed the need to closely monitor market developments, balance market supply and demand, and strengthen price stabilisation programmes to avoid shortages or disruptions during the peak shopping period.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade was tasked with working with local governments and businesses to prepare adequate stocks of food, consumer goods and other necessities, while intensifying inspections to combat smuggling, counterfeit products and trade fraud.
Authorities were also instructed to guarantee stable supplies of fuel and electricity for production, business activities and household consumption, ensuring no shortages occur under any circumstances.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment was told to maintain sufficient supplies of food and agricultural products, coordinate inter-regional distribution, and facilitate smooth customs clearance at border gates to prevent congestion and protect exports.
On social welfare, the Ministry of Finance will direct Vietnam Social Security to ensure timely payment of pensions and social insurance benefits, including a combined payment for February and March 2026 in February. The ministry was also asked to promptly release national reserve goods to support vulnerable groups, particularly in disaster-affected areas.
Local administrations were urged to supervise enterprises in paying full Lunar New Year wages and bonuses, and to step up assistance for policy beneficiaries, low-income households and disadvantaged people.
The directive also calls for visits and holiday greetings to revolutionary veterans, war invalids, families of fallen soldiers and other policy beneficiaries, while emphasising thrift and banning the misuse of public funds for gifts or celebrations.
The Prime Minister requested all agencies and localities to resume normal operations immediately after the holiday to avoid administrative backlogs and ensure economic activities remain uninterrupted.
