SunRice shows interest in Vietnam’s low-carbon rice production

VOV.VN - Vietnam has made great strides in reducing carbon emissions, especially through the one-million-hectare high-quality and low-carbon rice cultivation project in the Mekong Delta by 2030, says Anthony McFarlane, communications director of SunRice, Australia’s largest rice production and distribution group.

The representative of SunRice Group made the assessment at a meeting on February 6 with Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Pham Hung Tam in Canberra.

At the reception, he updated the Vietnamese diplomat on the group's operations in Vietnam, revealing that SunRice has recently cooperated with the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) to research new high-yield rice varieties grown in Vietnam and export them to markets such as Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East.

The group has also teamed up with the ACIAR to raise awareness among farmers about the rice production value chain, the reduction of pesticide residues, and the development of biochar.

For his part, Tam appreciated SunRice's activities in the country and encouraged the group to make significant contributions to the one-million-hectare high-quality and low-carbon rice cultivation project in association with green growth in the Mekong Delta region by 2030.

The Vietnamese diplomat went on to affirm that the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia is willing to facilitate the group's business operations in Vietnam for the greater benefit of both sides in the time ahead.
