UOB eyes business expansion in Ho Chi Minh City

VOV.VN - Singapore-based United Overseas Bank (UOB) has expressed interest in expanding its investment and business operations in Ho Chi Minh City, while participating in the development of Vietnam’s International Financial Centre in the city (VIFC-HCMC), viewing Vietnam as a strategic market in its ASEAN portfolio.

The statement was made by Wee Ee Cheong, deputy chairman and chief executive officer of UOB Group, during a meeting with Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee chairman Nguyen Van Duoc on June 30.

Wee said the bank’s office building project in Ho Chi Minh City reflects the group’s long-term commitment to Vietnam. With a wide regional network across Southeast Asia, the bank aims to strengthen its presence in the city by contributing to the development of VIFC-HCMC and continuing to provide comprehensive financial solutions for foreign-invested enterprises operating in Vietnam.

He also expressed the bank’s hope for continued support from local authorities to further expand its investment and business activities, contributing to the city’s broader socio-economic development.

Duoc, for his part, welcomed UOB’s long-term investment commitment, noting that the bank’s office development project in the city is a positive signal reflecting strong investor confidence in the city’s growth prospects amid ongoing economic expansion efforts.

Ho Chi Minh City is committed to creating favourable conditions for foreign enterprises, including UOB, to expand operations in Vietnam’s southern economic hub, he told his guest.

He also said the city expects UOB to play an active role in the development of VIFC-HCMC, particularly in attracting international capital flows and supporting the development of trade finance, cross-border payments and digital financial services.
