VOV.VN - The United States Department of Commerce (DOC) has received a request for an anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigation into imported frozen warm water shrimp from a number of countries, including Vietnam.
The Vietnam Trade Remedies Authority (TRAV) stated that shrimp products subject to investigation include frozen warm water shrimp under HS codes 0306.17, 1605.21, and 1605.29 from such countries as Ecuador, India, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
Most notably, Vietnam is only subject to an anti-subsidy investigation as the Vietnamese shrimp product has been subject to anti-dumping duties imposed by the US since 2004.
The subsidy investigation period was last year, while the damage investigation period was from 2020 to the first half of this year.
In line with this, US importers alleged that frozen warm water shrimp products and fresh shrimp imported from Vietnam have enjoyed a series of subsidy programmes which have caused serious damage to the domestic US shrimp industry.
As a means of best protecting the rights and interests of Vietnamese exporters, TRAV recommends that local businesses are required to thoroughly prepare response plans in a bid to handle the case in the event that the DOC initiates an investigation.
Simultaneously, Vietnamese businesses must closely monitor developments in the case by registering an account at the DOC's portal at https://access.trade.gov/login.aspx. This should be done to update information and submit relevant documents to the US investigation agency, as well as co-ordinating with the TRAV throughout the process of the case for timely support.
Experts have been exploring various solutions to restore the competitiveness of Vietnamese shrimp exports, as reduced demand and higher requirements in terms of transparency and environment safety have had a significant impact on the sector since early this year.
VOV.VN - Vietnamese shrimp exports to the United States continued to witness robust growth in September, representing a year-on-year rise of 23% and marking the third consecutive month of positive growth this year, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
