Vietnam and United States make progress in trade agreement negotiations
VOV.VN - Vietnam and the United States have made notable progress in the second round of negotiations on a bilateral reciprocal trade agreement that took place in Washington, D.C. from May 19 - 22.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, head of the Government’s negotiating team. It included representatives from various ministries and agencies in charge of public security, foreign affairs, finance, construction, home affairs, agriculture, science - technology, justice, and banking.
During the second round, both sides engaged in constructive, open, and frank discussions, driven by goodwill, mutual respect, institutional awareness, and a shared commitment to balancing interests in accordance with their international obligations and respective levels of development.
The two sides exchanged detailed information on current policies, clarified language in the draft agreement, and discussed a comprehensive approach to address core issues of mutual concern, with the aim of accelerating the negotiation process.
Negotiators also identified areas of consensus, narrowed differences, outlined key issues for continued discussion. Both sides agreed on timelines for feedback on the draft agreement, proposed wording and plans to hold online meetings to prepare for the next negotiation round.

At the conclusion of the third negotiation day, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien met with US Chief Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to review progress and identify key areas for continued focus in early June.
Greer praised Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts in addressing US concerns and expressed hope for further technical and ministerial-level engagement to reach a conclusion soon.
Dien welcomed Greer’s remarks and reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to building a balanced, sustainable trade relationship with the US for the benefit of both countries’ people and businesses. He agreed to intensify technical exchanges to reach an agreement in line with each side’s expectations and conditions.
