Of the total, milk and dairy products contributed US$860 million, while meat and by-products accounted for more than US$1 billion.

Preliminary data from Vietnam Customs revealed that in Q2 alone, Vietnam imported approximately 236,900 tonnes of meat and meat products, valued at US$463.37 million, increasing 9.8% in volume and 12.3% in value year on year.

Major suppliers of meat and meat products to Vietnam included India, Russia, the United States, Australia, Brazil, Canada, and Poland.

Pork imports in particular reached 34,500 tons, worth US$92.33 million in Q2, a slight decrease of 0.3% in volume but a 0.5% increase in value compared to the previous quarter.

The top five pork-exporting countries to Vietnam were Russia, Brazil, Spain, Canada, and Poland.

Measures sought to remove barriers for meat imports

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien on October 22 received agricultural counsellors from various countries to discuss ways to promote trade in agricultural products.
