The sharp increase comes despite an overall 7% decline in the sector’s total export revenue. The Netherlands, Germany, France, Poland, and Spain have emerged as Vietnam’s top five EU markets during the reviewed period, posting annual growth rates ranging from 24% to 131%.

Key drivers of this growth included passion fruit, mangoes, pistachio, pineapples, and coconuts, with export volumes rising by between 29% and over 200%, Vinafruit said.

Dang Phuc Nguyen, general secretary of Vinafruit, attributed the robust growth to proactive trade promotion campaigns, improved business-to-business connections, and timely market intelligence for helping Vietnamese exporters gain greater access to the EU market.

“This is a positive signal. The EU has strong demand for tropical fruits, and Vietnam must diversify its export destinations to ensure long-term growth,” Nguyen said.

With the Chinese market, Vietnam’s largest buyer of fruits and vegetables, showing signs of a slowdown, experts say that expanding into the European market represents a strategic move which will ultimately enhance the overall value and long-term stability of the country’s agricultural exports.
