Hanoi to bring 1,837 AI-powered cameras online as traffic violations persist

While most road users comply with regulations, violations remain visible, including running red lights, lane encroachment, riding without helmets, mounting pavements, and illegal stopping or parking.

The Hanoi Traffic Police Office says the deployment significantly reduces the need for officers to be stationed on the streets to direct traffic while improving transparency in enforcement and supervision.

The city aims to deploy more than 40,000 cameras by 2030, including over 16,000 dedicated to traffic safety management, environmental monitoring and urban order. The AI camera system is able to identify 20 common traffic violations, features 360-degree scanning capability, facial and license-plate recognition, and can detect violations from distances of around 500 to 700 meters.
