International Women’s Day held for foreign female prisoners in Vietnam
VOV.VN - Vinh Quang detention camp in Tam Dao district, Vinh Phuc province, has hosted a special gathering for foreign female prisoners in celebration of International Women’s Day, which falls on March 8.
The detention camp is home to approximately 4,000 prisoners of whom 45 serving prison terms in sub-camp No4 are women of seven nationalities, mainly Lao and Chinese..

Vinh Quang is the only detention camp in northern Vietnam that detains women prisoners of different nationalities. In the photo, all prisoners are eager to partake in an art programme to mark International Women’s Day.
Among the foreign prisoners is an Indonesian woman (in the picture) who had been arrested for illegally transporting five kg of heroin to Vietnam. This was the first time that the 36-year-old woman arrived in the country.
