National team ready to take match to Japan ahead of latest World Cup qualifier
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese national men’s football team held a training session on November 3 in Hanoi in preparation for their upcoming match against Japan in the final round of Asian qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Assistant coach Lee Young-jin leads the coaching staff in discussions on training and tactics with the players.
The first 20 minutes is dedicated specifically to light exercises.
The players pair up as they take part in a movement exercise.
There is a positive and energetic atmosphere among the entire squad. Midfielder Tran Minh Vuong (R), who has been absent from the national squad for nearly two months due to injury, returns to face Japan in the upcoming match.
After a period of light exercises, players take part in more intensive training.
Cong Phuong is one of team’s key players to return to the national squad for the upcoming match against Japan.
Young-jin takes charge of the team while head coach Park Hang-seo is busy leading the Vietnamese U23 squad in the 2022 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U23 Asian Cup.
As head coach, Hang-seo will return to Vietnam on the night of November 4. He has called up an additional eight players from the U23 side to the senior team in preparation for the upcoming qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The Vietnamese team is now bottom of Group B after four losing games in a row against China, Saudi Araba, Australia, and Oman. They are aiming for at least one point in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Vietnam are due to play host to Japan and Saudi Arabia on November 11 and November 16, respectively, in Hanoi as part of the current stage of World Cup qualifiers.
