The Easter lily, called “loa ken” in Vietnamese, adorns streets across Hanoi with its fragile, gentle, and pure beauty.
Considered the “flower of April”, white lilies are mostly grown in the flower villages of Nhat Tan, Tay Tuu, Dong Anh, and Dan Phuong.
Although not as bright or as fragrant as many other flowers, its simplicity and pure white colour cause many people to fall in love with it.
The flower can be used as a decoration at home or as an offering at pagodas.
Old bicycles laden with a variety of blooming flowers can be seen as a piece of the colourful mosaic of life on Hanoi’s street.
In order to have Easter lilies to sale in April, growers have to plant the bulbs in September and October the previous year.
People can buy 10 stalks of Easter lilies for only VND35,000 to VND50,000.
Flowers need to be watered regularly in order to stay fresh during the long day that they are carried along Hanoi streets.
On weekends a number of people come to capture beautiful moments seen during the lily season on Phan Dinh Phung, one of the most beautiful streets throughout the capital.
Many don an Ao Dai as they pose with the beautiful flowers.
The capital in April seems to become more romantic and appealing thanks to the mobile white lily flower shops.
