During the meeting, Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet briefed the senator on the outcomes of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the results of the election of the new National Assembly, and the election and consolidation of key State leadership positions in the first half of this year. She also spoke highly of the support extended by international friends for Vietnam’s achievements and foreign policy.
The ambassador said relations between Vietnam and Argentina have continued to develop across political and diplomatic affairs, trade, education and culture over more than five decades.
In recent years, trade ties have expanded rapidly. Argentina is Vietnam’s third-largest trading partner in Latin America, while Vietnam is Argentina’s seventh-largest trading partner and its largest trading partner in Southeast Asia. Bilateral trade reached US$4.5 billion in 2025.
Nguyet noted that the two countries are also expanding cooperation in a number of new areas, including industry, high-tech agriculture, science and technology, culture, sports and exchanges between localities, with a view to establishing a strategic partnership in the agro-industrial sector.
For his part, Senator Capitanich expressed his hope of further augumenting parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, as well as ties between their political parties and states, alongside increased delegation exchanges. He also voiced his readiness to support negotiations on a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between Vietnam and the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR).
The senator underlined the importance of further expanding bilateral cooperation in high technology, stepping up exchanges between localities and enhancing effective cooperation at forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
He also highlighted Argentina’s official inauguration of its agro-industrial attaché office in Vietnam, saying the move shows the importance Argentina attaches to Vietnam in bilateral relations.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Argentina Ngo Minh Nguyet hosted an early-spring gathering in Buenos Aires on March 19 with representatives of the Argentina-Vietnam Cultural Institute (ICAV), the Communist Party of Argentina, and local media outlets, aimed at enhancing information exchange and advancing bilateral cooperation.
