2025 marks milestone in Russia-Vietnam relations, says Ambassador Bezdetko

VOV.VN - The year 2025 has been a landmark period for Vietnam-Russia relations, Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Bezdetko said during a year-end press briefing in Hanoi on December 29.

Ambassador Bezdetko highlighted major milestones, including the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, Vietnam’s 80th National Day, the 50th anniversary of the Southern Liberation and National Reunification of Vietnam, and the 80th anniversary of the Soviet victory in World War II, noting that this shared history provides a strong political and spiritual foundation for bilateral ties.

Amid global geopolitical tensions and widespread foreign policy adjustments, he said Russia and Vietnam maintained steady dialogue at all levels, as evidenced in the visit of Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam to Russia in May generating significant political momentum and resulting in the signing of nearly 20 bilateral agreements.

Economic cooperation continues to serve as a key measure of the partnership. Bilateral trade from January to November 2025 reached US$4.3 billion, up 3.7% from the previous year, reflecting the resilience of businesses and the benefits of the Vietnam-EAEU Free Trade Agreement.

Russia continues to export traditional commodities such as fuel, fertilizers, metals, and machinery, while Vietnam maintains competitive advantages in agricultural products, textiles, electronics, and consumer goods.

Vyacheslav Kharinov, Russia’s trade representative in Vietnam, emphasised that Vietnam is Russia’s strategic partner in both Europe and Asia. He outlined a roadmap aiming to increase bilateral trade to US$15 billion by 2030, through comprehensive cooperation in industry, logistics, digital technology, education, trade promotion, and engagement of small and medium-sized enterprises.

Tourism has also rebounded strongly. With the resumption of multiple direct flights, approximately 590,000 Russian visitors traveled to Vietnam by November 2025, nearly a 290% increase compared to the previous year, approaching pre-pandemic levels.

Educational and scientific exchanges have expanded, reinforcing generational ties between the two countries. With a solid political foundation, growing economic engagement, and continued diversification of cooperation, Vietnam and Russia reaffirm their commitment to deepening their comprehensive strategic partnership, navigating global geopolitical challenges together.
