VOV.VN - Australia has pledged to foster the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam by aligning future cooperation with the latter’s new development priorities.
Australian Minister for International Development, Small Business and Multicultural Affairs Anne Aly made the statement during her meeting with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung in Hanoi on July 28.
Aly said Australia highly values Vietnam's growing role and influence in the region and is committed to implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in a practical and effective manner.
She praised Vietnam's new development model, describing it as a strong foundation for identifying future areas of bilateral cooperation. Australia, she said, is ready to share its expertise and deepen collaboration in fields where it has particular strengths, including science and technology, artificial intelligence, high-tech agriculture, agricultural supply chains and advanced manufacturing.
The minister also stressed that Australia's official development assistance (ODA) programmes would continue to support Vietnam's development priorities. She noted that stronger bilateral cooperation would not only benefit both countries but also contribute to peace, stability, security and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific region.
Welcoming Aly to Vietnam, Trung expressed satisfaction with the steady progress of the Vietnam–Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and praised the effective implementation of the 2024–2027 Action Plan.
He briefed his guest on Vietnam's new development orientation following the 3rd plenum of the 14th Party Central Committee, under which the country is prioritising science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, private sector development and high-quality human resources.
He said these priorities closely match Australia's strengths and offer significant opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation.
The Vietnamese Foreign Minister proposed expanding collaboration in critical minerals, finance, marine science, high-tech agricultural processing and supply chain development. He also called for stronger cooperation in workforce training to help meet Vietnam's long-term development needs.
Recognising Australia as one of Vietnam's key development partners, Trung expressed hope that Australia would continue supporting Vietnam through ODA programmes, particularly in climate change adaptation and high-quality infrastructure development.
The two ministers also agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in human resource development and enhance coordination within ASEAN, the Mekong sub-region and other regional mechanisms, with the aim of making the Vietnam–Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership increasingly substantive, effective and sustainable.
