Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong to visit Vietnam this week

VOV.VN - Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong will make an official visit to Vietnam and co-chair the seventh Vietnam-Australia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Hanoi from August 19-21, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam.

Wong’s visit follows shortly after the 10th Vietnam-Australia Strategic Dialogue on foreign and defence affairs held in Canberra on August 5. She then issued a statement saying she would meet Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son and other senior leaders of Vietnam to discuss shared priorities, including trade and investment, climate change, education, cyber technology, and critical technologies.

At the coming Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Hanoi, both sides are expected to promote cooperation within the framework of the Vietnam – Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, particularly in human resource development, the digital economy, and green energy transition.

Wong noted that education, trade, and investment relations between Australia and Vietnam remain top priorities. She expressed her anticipation to meet with business leaders and alumni of Australian educational institutions to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral trade and investment, in line with Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040.

Vietnam is one of two stops on Foreign Minister Penny Wong’s Southeast Asia tour, along with Indonesia.
