Defense Minister meets Lao and Cambodian counterparts at Beijing Xiangshan Forum

Meeting the Lao minister, the two sides reviewed the results of defense cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in recent times and sketched out orientations for bilateral cooperation in the future, including increasing the exchange of the two sides’ young officers.

They expressed their belief that the first border defense friendship exchange between Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, scheduled to take place in December 2023, would be a great success.

At another meeting with the Cambodian minister, Giang congratulated Tea Seiha on being appointed to hold important positions in the Government, and at the same time sent his regards to former Defense Minister Tea Banh.

The two ministers agreed that the two countries should continue to maintain defense cooperation as an important pillar of the good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, and comprehensive and long-term cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia.

The two sides vowed to work hard to contribute to the success of the first border defense friendship exchange between Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia this December.

Meeting with the ASEAN Secretary General, Minister Giang thanked the ASEAN Secretariat for its coordination and support to help Vietnam complete its role as ASEAN Chairmanship in 2020, as well as joining United Nations Peacekeeping operations.

ASEAN Secretary General Cao Kim Hourn for his part highly appreciated Vietnam’s contributions to regional peace, security and cooperation mechanisms, especially the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM+).

He expressed hope that Vietnam would continue to make important contributions to ASEAN’s cooperation mechanisms in order to build a united and prosperous ASEAN community.
