Deputy PM encourages local cooperation between Vietnam and China

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh proposed increasing cooperation between localities of Vietnam and China, during his meeting with Chen Gang, member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Committee of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on September 16.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 22nd China–ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) and the 22nd China–ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CABIS) in Nanning, China.

The Deputy PM spoke highly of Guangxi’s significant socio-economic development achievements in recent times, and expressed his confidence that under the leadership of the Guangxi Party Committee, headed by Secretary Tran Cuong, Guangxi would continue to achieve even greater and new development milestones.

During the meeting, both sides praised the effective cooperation between Vietnamese localities and Guangxi in recent years. Exchanges and partnerships have achieved notable results, including promoting trade and investment, improving transport connectivity, strengthening people-to-people ties, and enhancing border management cooperation.

On future cooperation directions, Deputy PM Chinh proposed strengthening high-level delegations and local exchanges through programmes such as the Lunar New Year Meetings and the joint working committee of border provinces. He underscored the need to leverage historical and cultural sites related to President Ho Chi Minh in Guangxi; promote people-to-people exchanges and cross-border trade; and facilitate high-quality investment from Guangxi into Vietnam.

The Deputy PM also proposed that both sides closely coordinate in managing and protecting the border; actively exchange information and resolve any incidents arising along the border in a timely and satisfactory manner; and ensure the safe and effective operation of the Ban Gioc–Detian Scenic Area.

For his part, Secretary Chen affirmed that Guangxi would continue to prioritise friendly and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnamese localities, contributing to deepening the Vietnam–China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership.

He suggested several specific measures to enhance cooperation between Guangxi and Vietnam across multiple areas, including improving the effectiveness of sustainable economic and trade cooperation; encouraging Guangxi enterprises to expand investment in Vietnam; promoting collaboration in science and technology, artificial intelligence, and facilitating customs procedures; and enhancing cross-border transport connectivity, particularly railway connections.
