Netherlands considers investment in Vietnam’s semiconductor chip industry

Schoof expressed his pleasure at meeting Chinh and noted that the friendly and cooperative relationship between the two countries has been developing well across all areas. He emphasized that both sides should make further efforts to strengthen bilateral relations, as there is still significant potential and room for stronger growth.

Schoof also shared that the King and Queen of the Netherlands look forward to visiting Vietnam again in the near future.

The two leaders acknowledged the positive development of the Comprehensive Partnership between Vietnam and the Netherlands, especially in areas like climate change response and sustainable agriculture.

The Netherlands is currently Vietnam’s second largest trading partner in Europe and the largest EU investor in Vietnam. Despite the challenges in global trade, two-way trade turnover between the two countries in 2024 reached US$13.77 billion, a 26% increase compared to 2023.

Chinh for his part proposed elevating political and diplomatic relations between the two countries to a new, deeper, and more practical level. He emphasized the need for both countries to enhance high-level exchanges, actively implement the two strategic partnership frameworks on climate change response and sustainable agriculture through specific and practical programmes and projects, particularly in the Mekong Delta and coastal areas.

The two countries should continue to effectively execute existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms while exploring new areas where the Netherlands has strengths and Vietnam has demands, such as high technology, semiconductor design and manufacturing, and other scientific and technological fields, he suggested.

Chinh also requested that the Netherlands promptly ratify the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and urged the EU to quickly lift the yellow card on Vietnam’s seafood to facilitate further economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

On this occasion, Chinh extended a warm invitation to Schoof to visit Vietnam soon, and to attend the 4th Summit of the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals (P4G) to be held in Hanoi this April.
