VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on April 1 received Choi Young Sam, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea (RoK) to Vietnam, proposing a series of measures to further deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with a focus on trade expansion and energy security cooperation.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister suggested that the two countries accelerate efforts to raise bilateral trade turnover to US$100 billion in the near term and aim for US$150 billion by 2030 in a more balanced manner. He also encouraged RoK businesses to expand investment in strategic sectors such as semiconductors, core technologies and renewable energy, aligning with Vietnam’s development priorities.
Emphasising the growing importance of energy resilience amid global uncertainties, particularly tensions in the Middle East, the Prime Minister called for closer cooperation in ensuring energy security. He proposed that the RoK share its experience in energy governance and the development of alternative fuels, while increasing investment in Vietnam’s key energy infrastructure projects to strengthen the economy’s resilience against external shocks.
The Prime Minister also highlighted Vietnam’s development orientation following the 14th National Party Congress, including its goal of achieving an average GDP growth rate of over 10% annually during 2026–2030 and becoming a high-income developed country by 2045. To that end, Vietnam is prioritising institutional reforms, private sector development, and breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and digital transformation – the areas where cooperation with the RoK could be further expanded.
He reaffirmed that Vietnam highly values its relationship with the RoK and appreciated the Ambassador’s contributions to advancing bilateral ties, noting that the partnership is currently at its strongest stage, underpinned by growing political trust and high-level exchanges.
For his part, Ambassador Choi expressed strong support for the Prime Minister’s proposals and affirmed his commitment to coordinating closely with Vietnamese ministries and agencies to effectively implement high-level agreements. He added that he would work with the Korean government and energy corporations to enhance cooperation with Vietnam, particularly in energy security, and continue serving as a bridge to further deepen bilateral relations in a substantive and effective manner.
Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung and his Korean counterpart Cho Hyun discussed measures to further promote cooperation between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) during their phone talks on March 10.
