President Luong Cuong calls for enhanced Vietnam – Japan friendship exchanges

VOV.VN - President Luong Cuong pushed for stronger Vietnam – Japan friendship exchanges during his meeting with Yasutaka Nakasone, member of Japan’s House of Representatives and Head of the Youth Division of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), in Hanoi on August 22.

Nakasone was leading a 60-member delegation consisting of national and local legislators, private sector representatives, and students of Japan on a working visit to Vietnam from August 20 - 22.

President Cuong commended the LDP Youth Division for choosing Vietnam as one of its first destinations after its leadership was restructured. He also appreciated the delegation’s meaningful and well-rounded program in Vietnam, including exchange activities with the National Assembly’s Young Parliamentarians Group and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.

Such exchanges, he said, play a vital and practical role in fostering mutual understanding among the younger generations of both countries, laying a solid foundation for advancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Japan.

The President highlighted Vietnam’s remarkable transformation over the past 80 years, from a colonised, war-ravaged, and impoverished country with no presence on the world map to a politically stable, fast-growing economy ranked 32nd globally and a key member of ASEAN with deepening international integration. He expressed gratitude to the international community, particularly Japan, for its support in Vietnam’s socio-economic development, investment climate improvement, and legal reform. He described the Vietnam–Japan relationship as one of the most successful models of bilateral cooperation today.

In his remarks, Nakasone expressed his delight at returning to Vietnam after eight years during a historic moment as the country was celebrating the 80th anniversary of its National Day. He praised the patriotism and historical pride of the Vietnamese people, especially among the youth, and expressed deep admiration for the country’s rapid reform progress, economic development, and the dynamism of its young population.

He conveyed his strong belief in Vietnam’s future success and pledged to contribute actively to strengthening bilateral relations.

President Cuong encouraged the LDP Youth Division to promote exchanges and visits between high-ranking leaders, ministries, lawmakers, and localities of both countries. He called on Japan to continue supporting Vietnam’s industrialisation and modernisation efforts, helping the country achieve its development goals, and encouraging Vietnamese businesses to further engage in Japan’s supply chains. He also emphasised cooperation in AI, quantum technology, semiconductors, and the development of high-quality human resources.

In response, Nakasone affirmed his commitment to fostering youth-level cooperation and exchanges between the LDP Youth Division and Vietnamese counterparts at both central and local levels. He also highlighted Japan’s interest in promoting more ODA and high-quality FDI projects in Vietnam, as well as expanding cooperation in defence and security, agriculture, green transition, digital transformation, and science and technology.

Nakasone stressed the LDP’s intent to improve the living and working conditions for the over 600,000 Vietnamese people residing in Japan, acknowledging their valuable contributions to Japan’s economic and social development.

Several delegates also expressed interest in boosting local-level cooperation through people-to-people exchanges, tourism, and investment ties, affirming their support for the success of “Vietnam Day” at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.
