VOV.VN - A senior Cambodian leader has reaffirmed that relations between Cambodia and Vietnam remain resilient and continue to develop amid evolving global conditions.
Speaking at a New Year celebration in Svay Rieng province on April 6, Men Sam An, vice president of the Cambodian People's Party and president of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland, emphasised that cooperation between the two countries has been steadily strengthened at both national and local levels.
The event, held in Svay Rieng city, was attended by delegations from Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defence and authorities from Vietnam’s Tay Ninh province, reflecting ongoing exchanges between border localities.
Men Sam An, who is also head of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association, welcomed the Vietnamese delegation to join celebrations of Chol Chhnam Thmey, Cambodia’s traditional New Year festival, and highlighted the long-standing friendship between the two neighbouring countries.
She said Cambodia and Vietnam share a history of mutual support during periods of hardship, including cooperation in the struggle for independence, peace and development. Cambodia, she added, continues to acknowledge the contributions of Vietnamese volunteer forces in helping the country end the Khmer Rouge regime in 1979.
At the local level, the Cambodian leader remarked that cooperation between Svay Rieng and Tay Ninh provinces has expanded across multiple sectors, serving as a practical example of cross-border collaboration and people-to-people ties.
She added that bilateral relations have continued to advance under the guiding principles of “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term stability”.
She concluded her speech by saying despite a complex and changing global environment, solidarity between the two countries remains a valuable asset that will be preserved and strengthened for future generations.
