State President Phuc welcomes top Lao leader

Phuc spoke highly of the great and comprehensive achievements Laos has recorded in national development and international integration in recent times, and expressed his belief that the Lao people will successfully implement the Resolution adopted at the 11th National Party Congress, as well as its 9th five-year Socio-Economic Development Plan for the 2021-2025 period.

For his part, the Lao leader congratulated Vietnam on its successful organization of the 13th National Party Congress and elections of deputies to the National Assembly and local People’s Councils for the 2021-2026 tenure. He highly valued Vietnam’s tremendous achievements in national development and international integration, considering them a common victory and a great source of encouragement for the Lao revolutionary cause.

Both leaders appreciated the two countries’ efforts as well as their cooperation and mutual support in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic over the past time. They affirmed that Vietnam and Laos always uphold the tradition of mutual assistance in any circumstances to overcome difficulties and challenges, especially the COVID-19 pandemic to maintain socio-economic recovery and sustainable development.

They expressed their elation at the positive development of the Vietnam-Laos relations in recent times despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The two countries have maintained reciprocal visit exchanges and contacts in various forms. They have also successfully organized their National Party Congresses and completed their new leadership, helping set out orientations and create motivation for bilateral cooperation in all fields in the coming years.

They agreed to work closely to promote bilateral cooperation in an increasingly comprehensive and substantive manner, by realizing agreements reached during high-level talks on June 28.

Accordingly, the two sides will effectively implement the minutes of the 43rd meeting of the Vietnam – Laos Intergovernmental Committee in December 2020, strengthen security - defense cooperation, promote cooperation in economics, trade, investment, agriculture, education and training, as well as cooperation between their localities.

They will coordinate well in organizing activities to celebrate 60 years of  bilateral diplomacy and 45 years of the Vietnam - Laos Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation in 2022.

Both host and guest exchanged views on the two countries' coordination and cooperation at multilateral forums, including ASEAN and the Mekong Sub-region and the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Area.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc congratulated Laos on being elected as Vice President of the 76th United Nations General Assembly, demonstrating Laos’ Increasing prestige and position in the international arena.

Lao Party leader & State President Thongloun Sisoulith cordially invited President Nguyen Xuan Phuc to visit Laos at an appropriate time. The invitation was then accepted with pleasure.

Thongloun Sisoulith left Hanoi on June 29 afternoon, concluding his two-day official visit to Vietnam.
