State President sends three more officers to UN peacekeeping operations

Two officers will succeed their predecessors at the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and one at the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA).

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Minister of Defense, handed over the decisions of the State President and the Minister of National Defense to the three officers, at a ceremony held in Hanoi on October 7.

To effectively prepare a replacement force for personnel assigned to carry out the missions, Major General Pham Manh Thang, director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, said his department has proactively selected officers who meet the requirements in terms of capability, military qualifications, knowledge of United Nations peacekeeping, foreign language proficiency, and good health.

The Department has also organized training courses as required by the United Nations, including the United Nations Staff Officer Course, the United Nations Military Observers Course, and the Pre-Deployment Training Course.

“All the three officers deployed this time have participated in structured training, meeting the requirements of the United Nations as well as the Ministry of National Defense in carrying out peacekeeping missions at various missions," said Thang.

Congratulating the three officers preparing to depart for their missions, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien commended the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations and relevant units for nurturing personnel and preparing the deployment of forces at UN peacekeeping missions.

He requested that as soon as they arrive, the three officers must quickly grasp the situation in their designated areas, immediately engage in their work, and effectively fulfill their responsibilities and assigned tasks.
