Thai PM arrives in Hanoi for official visit and ASEAN Future Forum

VOV.VN - A high-level Thai delegation led by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul arrived in Hanoi on June 8, beginning an official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung.

The Thai PM is also scheduled to attend the third ASEAN Future Forum (AFF 2026) slated for June 9-10 in Hanoi.

Welcoming the Thai delegation at the airport were Vietnamese Minister of Ethnic and Religious Affairs Nguyen Dinh Khang, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Anh Tuan, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung, Thai Ambassador to Vietnam Urawadee Sriphiromya, and representatives from Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The year 2026 marks a significant milestone as Vietnam and Thailand celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

PM Anutin’s visit comes just 10 days after the official visit to Thailand by Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President To Lam.

According to Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung, the visit demonstrates the Thai government’s strong commitment to further advancing bilateral friendship and cooperation following the elevation of ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in May 2025.

Meanwhile, Thai Ambassador Urawadee Sriphiromya described bilateral cooperation as closer than ever before. She noted that the upgraded Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is accompanied by a carefully designed and comprehensive Plan of Action (POA) for the 2026-2031 period, covering all areas of cooperation.

The visit takes place as both countries continue to strengthen coordination within Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and regional frameworks.

Participation in the ASEAN Future Forum is expected to provide additional opportunities for Vietnam and Thailand to discuss regional connectivity, economic cooperation, and shared efforts to advance the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.

Politburo member, Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and head of the committee’s Commission for Internal Affairs Le Minh Tri received Isra Sunthornvut, deputy leader of Thailand’s Democrat Party, in Hanoi on June 7.
