Vietnamese Party, State leader meets with Timor Leste President in Singapore
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and State President To Lam met with President of Timor-Leste José Ramos-Horta in Singapore on May 29.
VOV.VN - Timor-Leste Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão will pay an official visit to Vietnam and attend the third ASEAN Future Forum from June 7 to 10 at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung.
The ASEAN Future Forum 2026 is scheduled to take place in Hanoi on June 9-10 under the theme “Shaping Our Shared Future Together: Peace, Prosperity and People-Centred.”
The forum is expected to gather senior Vietnamese leaders, officials from several ASEAN member states, representatives of international organisations, research institutes, businesses and local authorities from Vietnam and abroad.
The ASEAN Future Forum is regarded as Vietnam’s first major high-level multilateral diplomatic event following the country’s 14th National Party Congress, the election of the 16th National Assembly and the recent consolidation of key leadership positions.
The forum was first introduced by the Vietnamese Government during the ASEAN Summit in 2023 as an initiative aimed at creating a platform for ASEAN leaders, partners, scholars and businesses to discuss ideas and propose initiatives contributing to the bloc’s long-term development.
The mechanism is designed to complement ASEAN’s formal processes while encouraging broader policy dialogue on regional peace, prosperity and sustainable growth.
The forum is anticipated to focus on major regional and global issues, including economic cooperation, sustainable development, digital transformation, innovation and people-centered governance.
VOV.VN - Prime Minister of Timor-Leste Xanana Gusmão has affirmed that he regards Vietnam as a close friend and trusted partner, expressing a desire to further strengthen practical cooperation across key development sectors.
VOV.VN - Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to Vietnam João Pereira has described Vietnam as one of the region’s “tigers” and an important pillar of the ASEAN economy, while also calling the country a key partner and a model for Timor-Leste as the young nation pursues its development path.
Following its official admission as the 11th member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at the 47th ASEAN Summit in Malaysia on October 26, Timor Leste marked a historic milestone with the signing of the Declaration on its accession, witnessed by leaders of the 10 existing member states.
