VOV.VN - Vietnam and Azerbaijan agreed to step up cooperation in the defence industry as part of their growing Strategic Partnership, during talks in Hanoi on December 25 between Vietnam’s Defence Minister General Phan Van Giang and Azerbaijan’s Minister of Defence Industry Vugar Mustafayev.
General Giang reaffirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to strengthening its traditional friendship with Azerbaijan - a relationship nurtured by late President Ho Chi Minh and late Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev and elevated to a Strategic Partnership in May 2025.
The Vietnamese defence chief expressed appreciation for Azerbaijan’s valuable support for Vietnam during its struggle for national independence, reunification and post-war reconstruction.
He noted that bilateral defence cooperation has been implemented in line with guidance from senior leaders of both countries and existing agreements, yielding positive and substantive results, particularly in the defence industry.
General Giang called on both sides to accelerate the signing of cooperation documents on defence industry collaboration to establish a stronger legal framework. He also proposed expanding exchanges of delegations, joint participation in defence exhibitions, military trade cooperation, research and production, technology transfer, and high-quality human resource training.
The Vietnamese minister invited Azerbaijani defence industry leaders and enterprises to attend and showcase products at the 3rd Vietnam International Defence Expo, scheduled to take place in 2026.
For his part, Mustafayev highlighted the long-standing ties between Vietnam and Azerbaijan across multiple fields, including economy, energy, trade and technology, with defence industry cooperation emerging as a key pillar.
He affirmed Azerbaijan’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Vietnam in mutually agreed areas, particularly in the defence industry, based on shared interests and capabilities, contributing to more effective and sustainable bilateral relations in the future.
