VOV.VN - Vietnam and Thailand have demonstrated their shared determination to promote deeper and more substantive cooperation across various fields.
The agreement was reached during a working session in Bangkok on October 9 between Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang and Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs under the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs Eksiri Pintaruchi.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the positive progress in Vietnam–Thailand relations in recent times, especially the effective coordination between the two foreign ministries in implementing cooperation mechanisms such as the joint Cabinet meeting, the joint commission, and political consultations.
The two sides agreed to work closely to effectively implement the outcomes of the 5th Vietnam–Thailand Joint Cabinet Meeting and to soon finalise the Action Programme for the 2026–2030 period to concretise the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership upgraded in May 2025.
Vietnam and Thailand also plan to actively prepare for upcoming high-level visits and bilateral cooperation mechanisms, including the joint commission at the Foreign Ministers level.
Deputy Minister Hang highly appreciated Thailand’s support in citizen protection efforts, particularly the coordination in safely repatriating Vietnamese citizens who had been detained in Myawaddy, Myanmar.
In the field of fisheries cooperation, the two sides held in-depth discussions on combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Hang reaffirmed Vietnam's commitment to strictly implementing EU recommendations, including legal reform, vessel monitoring, mandatory installation of tracking devices, and stronger sanctions.
Thailand welcomed Vietnam’s efforts, shared its experiences in marine resource management, and agreed to promote sustainable fisheries cooperation as well as coordinate in handling violations related to fishing vessels and fishermen of both countries.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to close coordination at multilateral forums, especially within ASEAN and ASEAN–EU cooperation, to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region.
Later the same day, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang attended the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day, organised by the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand.
The function was attended by the Deputy Speaker of the Thai House of Representatives, leaders of various government agencies, the Senate, diplomatic corps, businesses, and a large number of overseas Vietnamese in Thailand.
Addressing delegates, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung recalled the 80-year journey of hardship and pride of the Vietnamese people, while expressing deep gratitude for the support of international friends, including Thailand.
“I believe that the peoples of Vietnam and Thailand will continue to nurture and deepen the bilateral relationship within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, contributing to peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region and the world,” he said.
Sharing his remarks at the event, Thai Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijavat Isarabhakdi affirmed that Vietnam–Thailand relations have developed comprehensively over the decades, making a significant contribution to the peace and prosperity of the Mekong sub-region and ASEAN. The recent upgrade to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership reflects the strong commitment of both countries’ leaders to promoting strategic dialogue, socio-economic cooperation, and people-to-people connectivity.
As Vietnam and Thailand celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year, he expressed his belief that the two countries would continue to write new chapters of successful cooperation, contributing to peace, prosperity, and sustainable development in the region.
