VOV.VN - The 5th meeting of the ASEAN–UK Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) was held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on March 4 co-chaired by the Vietnamese Mission to ASEAN and the United Kingdom’s Mission to ASEAN.
Held on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the establishment of the ASEAN–United Kingdom Dialogue Partnership and in the final year of implementing the 2022–2026 ASEAN–UK Plan of Action, the meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to review the results of cooperation over the past five years and identify directions for strengthening ties in the coming period.
UK Ambassador to ASEAN Helen Fazey affirmed that ASEAN is a reliable and constructive partner and a central pillar in the United Kingdom’s Indo-Pacific strategy. She reiterated the UK’s commitment to supporting ASEAN centrality as a foundation for regional peace and stability, and to strengthening long-term and trusted relations that deliver tangible benefits to all 11 member states.
Both sides agreed to step up cooperation in areas where the UK has strong expertise and that align with the priorities of the ASEAN Vision 2045. These include maritime cooperation, combating transnational crime, energy transition, green infrastructure, the digital economy, data and artificial intelligence, alongside strengthening connectivity, enhancing disaster resilience, and narrowing development gaps within ASEAN.
Ton Thi Ngoc Huong, head of the Vietnamese Mission to ASEAN, reaffirmed that Vietnam would closely coordinate with other ASEAN member states to achieve key objectives during the anniversary year. These include developing a substantive new ASEAN–UK Plan of Action for the 2027–2031 period and finalising a joint ASEAN–UK statement on cooperation under the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific.
Vietnam will continue to play an active coordinating role and serve as a trusted bridge to help elevate ASEAN–UK relations to new heights, she told the meeting.
Vietnam currently serves as the country coordinator for ASEAN–UK relations.
As the coordinator for ASEAN-UK relations for the 2024–2027 term, Vietnam is committed to advancing cooperation in priority areas while upholding ASEAN centrality, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung said at the recent ASEAN-UK Dialogue on Sustainability in Bangkok, Thailand.
VOV.VN - Vietnam affirmed at a meeting with International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi in Vienna, Austria, that it will coordinate the 11th Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) in an objective manner and bolster cooperation on nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
Vietnam’s engagement at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat on January 28–29 in Cebu, the Philippines, underscored its strategic commitment to ASEAN and its determination to translate foreign policy orientations into concrete action, contributing to peace, stability, and sustainable development in Southeast Asia.
