VOV.VN - Vietnam supports a peaceful, stable and prosperous Myanmar while pledging to further strengthen the two countries' Comprehensive Partnership, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam told newly appointed Myanmar Ambassador Wai Linn in Hanoi on July 6.
Welcoming Ambassador Wai Linn at the Presidential Palace, the Vietnamese leader congratulated him on the start of his diplomatic mission and asserted that Vietnam attaches great importance to its traditional friendship and Comprehensive Partnership with Myanmar.
As neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia and fellow ASEAN members, Vietnam hopes to see a peaceful, stable and developing Myanmar, the Vietnamese leader said.
He reaffirmed Vietnam's continued coordination with ASEAN in encouraging Myanmar to take appropriate steps in the current context so that its people can return to normal life as soon as possible and the country can further engage with ASEAN.
The top leader expressed his hope that Ambassador Wai Linn would make positive contributions to strengthening the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries during his tenure.
He also called for closer coordination in deepening bilateral cooperation across various fields and promoting regional cooperation, particularly within the Mekong sub-region, including Mekong summits hosted by Vietnam in 2026.
For his part, Ambassador Wai Linn thanked his host for the warm reception and conveyed congratulations from Myanmar's President Min Aung Hlaing on the leader’s election by Vietnam's 16th National Assembly as State President.
The ambassador also expressed Myanmar's appreciation to the Vietnamese Government and people for dispatching rescue and relief teams to assist Myanmar in overcoming the devastating earthquake that struck the country in March 2025.
Lauding Myanmar’s longstanding friendship with Vietnam, Ambassador Wai Linn said his country looks forward to expanding bilateral cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including agriculture, telecommunications, electric vehicles and tourism.
He pledged to work closely with Vietnamese partners to further promote the Comprehensive Partnership. He also conveyed President Min Aung Hlaing's invitation to Party General Secretary and State President To Lam to pay an official visit to Myanmar at a mutually convenient time.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has praised Vietnam’s military and public security forces for their recent aid mission to earthquake-hit Myanmar, calling it a testament to their maturity and Vietnam’s values, culture and sense of responsibility toward the international community.
National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines on April 8 operated a special flight carrying nearly 30 tonnes of relief supplies to Myanmar, which has been recently hit by a powerful earthquake.
