Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh was speaking while receiving a delegation from the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (China), led by Zhang Zhu, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and Party Secretary of Urumqi, in Hanoi on November 26.
Thanh affirmed that both Vietnam and China are neighbouring countries that have treasured a longstanding tradition of friendship for years. Throughout the struggles for national liberation and the building of socialism in each country, the two Parties, states, and peoples have stood united, supporting and assisting each other, possessing an invaluable asset that must be preserved, protected, and promoted.
Reiterating Vietnam’s consistent implementation of an independent, self-reliant, multilateral, and diversified foreign policy, along with its “Four No’s” defense policy, the Vice Chairwoman emphasized that strengthening and developing the comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership with China is a consistent approach, an objective necessity, a strategic choice, and a top priority in Vietnam’s overall foreign policy framework.
Thanh expressed her delight at the strong development and significant progress in bilateral relations in recent times, particularly after both sides agreed to elevate their relationship and build a community with a shared future that carried strategic significance. She affirmed that the Party, State, and National Assembly of Vietnam consistently support and create favourable conditions for ministries, sectors, and localities to enhance friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation with Xinjiang.
She recalled the outcomes of the Vietnamese National Assembly delegation’s working visit to the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in May 2024, saying the visit was a practical step towards realizing agreements to enhance visit exchanges, foster communication and experience-sharing, and deepen political trust and mutual understanding between National Assembly delegates and local People’s Councils of the two countries.
Congratulating Xinjiang on its socio-economic achievements, the Vice Chairwoman commended the efforts of the Communist Party, government, and people of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in fostering ethnic unity, maintaining security and social stability, and improving people’s livelihoods. She expressed her belief that under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, Xinjiang would continue to develop in a stable and prosperous manner.
The Vice Chairwoman proposed that Xinjiang expand the import of Vietnamese products, particularly tropical agricultural goods, and to strengthen logistics and bilateral freight transport connections. She called for the encouragement of mutual investments by businesses from both sides, the facilitation of people-to-people exchanges, the promotion of tourism cooperation, the establishment of additional air routes, and the enhancement of cultural and educational collaborations, including student exchanges between universities.
Zhang, for his part, stated that the delegation’s visit to Vietnam aimed to share development experience across various fields so as to promote cooperation in human resource development, education - training, and new energy development.
He agreed with Thanh’s proposals and expressed hope for continued collaboration in transportation, including maritime, rail, road, and air links, and further promotion of cooperation in tourism and agriculture.
