Vietnam to hand over newly-built National Assembly building to Laos

The building is a special gift from the Party, State and people of Vietnam to the Party, State and people of Laos. The US$111.7 million project was invested by the Ministry of Construction, and Army Corps 11 under the Ministry of Defense worked as general contractor.

In an interview granted to VOV, Lao National Assembly Chairman Saysomphone Phomvihane noted that the project is a gift of great value that symbolizes the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

According to the chief legislator, the project was undertaken at a time when both countries were struggling to cope with the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“However, with the great efforts and determination by the two sides, the new Lao National Assembly building was successfully put into service at the first session of the 9th National Assembly of Laos in March,” revealed Phomvihane.

Construction units had since put the finishing touches to the project to ensure the building is ready for the official hand-over ceremony during Vietnamese State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s official visit to Laos on August 9-10.

The building is the venue for meetings of the Lao National Assembly and important ceremonies. It will also serve cultural tours and research trips of people, students and tourists.
